Coin Flip Hands
In poker online, especially No Limit Texas Hold em, where the outcome of one hand can clean you out or make you a lot of money, the so-called “coin flip” hands become extremely important. The definition of a coin flip is when two hands are going against each other that each have a roughly 50-50 chance of winning. In limit, where if your pocket nines don’t hold up against A-K you’ve only lost a little bit of money, these kind of hands aren’t a huge deal. Nut in no limit, especially tournament poker online play, where you need to win several coin flips to advance, they become huge. And the worst part about them, is they are completely predicated on luck. If you play badly, say tried a bluff that didn’t work out, you can always learn fro your mistakes and play better poker next time. But if you go all-in with A-K and someone calls you with 3-3, and you lose, there’s nothing you can do except curse your luck. You didn’t necessarily make a bad play, the luck just didn’t work out for you. But don’t dispair. The law of averages always worls out, and it just means you’ll win a coin flip later.
